Easter Watercolor Stamping for Toddlers – Easy Kids Easter Craft

Looking for an easy, mess free toddler Easter craft?? We love celebrating Easter! Both for the meaning of the holiday and for the emergence of spring with all the fun colors. Coloring Easter Eggs is a time old tradition – but not the most toddler friendly activity. So as I thought about an alternative to coloring eggs, our watercolor stamping process came to mind!

And with a few tweaks to the Valentine’s cards, our mess free watercolor stamped Easter eggs embody the same results as the traditional dyed eggs.

No Mess “Dyed” Easter Eggs for Kids

Supplies

  • White cardstock cut into various sized egg shapes (AKA ovals)
  • White Crayon
  • Small cups
  • Straws (cut in half work great)
  • Acrylic Craft Paint
  • Water
  • Foil lined baking sheet and/or paper plates

Instructions for No Mess “Dyed” Easter Eggs

1. Mix 1 teaspoon craft paint with 1 tablespoon water in each small cup and stir with a straw.

2. With the white crayon, draw a design on one side of your eggs. Think stripes, polka dots, names, etc! (or Picasso scribbles by your toddler 😉 ) This is your typical “relief painting” – anything with crayon will not be painted.

3. Using your finger as suction, place several drops of “watercolor” on the foil lined baking sheet. My two year old isn’t quite old enough to master the suction process but he likes to try. I have him help by selecting/saying colors. We love seeing how the colors swirl together

4. Once you have a “puddle” just large enough to cover the egg, gently place it crayon side down and pull up. Just a couple seconds will do! Then flip it over and submerge the back. Wetting both sides will prevent curling as they dry.

5. Place the eggs on the paper plate to dry fully!

6. Look at those pretty colors!!!

7. Once dry, use them to decorate your walls, make a bunting for the fireplace or add to a card for some sweet Easter mail! I always have these cards on hand from Michaels. A few swirls of the gluestick and we have a darling handmade card!

We love our watercolor stamping painting process for so many reasons! Easy for toddlers. Relatively mess free painting. Fantastic results – which let’s be real, is always a huge bonus with toddler crafts! For more mess free Easter egg crafting, check out how we painted plastic Easter eggs.
